Tech Spot buying computers Pt 1

When you’re considering buying computers equipment what do you look for? When I am starting to look at the possibility of buying a computer, I ask the following question. What am I buying this for? When you answer that question, the shopping will be that much easier. The main characteristics we’ll cover are:
1. Desktop vs laptop
2. Is it for business, school, home or for entertainment.
3. Hard Drive
4. Memory
5. Monitor

This time we will focus on the issue of Desktop vs. laptop, and the question, is it for business, school, home or for entertainment.
Desktop vs. laptop
Which is better Desktop or Laptop? It depends on whether you need to transport the computer. If you don’t need to carry it places, then go desktop, if you travel a lot, then consider a laptop. Are Desktops more powerful than Laptops? Depends on what kind of laptop you buy. There are laptops that are being billed as desktop replacements and uses just as powerful a chip as most desktops.

Is it for business, school, home or for entertainment
If you’re looking for a business computer, the speed of the chip, and advanced graphics are not an issue. If it is a gaming computer you’re looking for, then look for advanced graphics, and faster processing speeds.

We’ll talk more in depth about these and tackle another characteristic next time.

Angry Enough To Die

Jonah was an angry man, even after God saved him from death and used him to bring life to the ancient city of Nineveh. Anger can make life distorted and blind us from seeing the Lord.

Join WRAF for the next HAVEN Today, tomorrow at 5:30 AM on Toccoa Falls Radio as Charles Morris continues to tell the Great Story … it’s all about Jesus!

Georgia Tax Free Weekend - August 31 - Sept 3

Sales tax holiday gets under way Thursday

Retailers throughout the state are stocking up and staffing up to get ready for an anticipated flood of shoppers taking advantage of the coming annual sales tax holiday. Local and state taxes will be exempt on qualifying items purchased beginning Thursday and ending Sunday. Those purchases will include items of clothing or shoes costing $100 or less, school supplies with a sales price of $20 or less and personal computers costing no more than $1,500.

Shoppers in Georgia will be able to buy certain clothing items, school supplies, computers and computer accessories without paying sales tax during the state’s sales tax holiday from 12:01 a.m. Thursday until midnight on Sunday.

For information, contact the Department of Revenue by phone at (404) 417-6601 or by e-mail at taxpayer.services@dor.ga.gov.

There’s also good news for teachers. They will again receive a $100 classroom gift card to pay for items. The gift cards will be active from July 31 through Aug. 10, but state officials are asking teachers to use the cards during the sales tax holiday.

A tax-free holiday for some energy efficient and water efficient products with a sales price of $1,500 or less will be Oct. 2-5.

Gordon Mote "Don't Let Me Miss Glory" Lyrics

We've had many requests to provide the lyrics to:

Don't Let Me Miss The Glory

VERSE 1
In the view from the mountains
There's a story to be told
In the crashing of the ocean
There's a power that no man will ever hold

All the stars in the Heavens
Decorate Your handiwork
And like a mighty choir
They've come to celebrate Your worth

CHORUS
Don't let me miss the glory
Don't let me miss the grace
All creation is singing
To the honor of Your name

Don't let me miss the wonder
Don't let me miss the grand design
And the lightning and the thunder
Lord open up my eyes
Don't let me miss the glory

VERSE 2
In the cry of a baby
In the laughter of love
In the dance of the faithful
you will find the greatness of our God above

In the prayer of the righteous
In the beauty of Your grace
In a brand new morning's mercy
All your memories of my sin have been erased

REPEAT CHORUS TWICE

Don't let me miss the glory

Here's the amazing video

Classical Conversations Homeschool Program

Attention, Home School Parents!

Classical Conversations Maysville, Georgia meets on Tuesday's from 9:30am to 1:30am at Grove Level Baptist Church near the Tanger Outlet Mall at Banks Crossing.

Classical Conversations is a once-a-week, supplemental, academic program providing a committed Christian community of structure and support, along with great fellowship for the students and parents. Each of our programs utilize the classical tools of learning and emphasize life-long learning skills.

For more information email: georgiaschaefers@windstream.net

Our Goals:

• To provide foundational instruction for K-6th graders to enable them to know God and to make Him known
• To participate in a rigorous memorization program capitalizing on the young child’s ability to absorb facts
• To instill a comprehensive understanding of Providence by mastering a timeline of significant historicalevents
• To teach students to draw and label continents from memory
• To develop a strong science vocabulary, to participate in science projects, and to teach the scientific method
• To help students develop oral and written presentation skills
• To model for students a respect for God’s Word, the USA, and one another
• To memorize the major grammar rules of the English language
• To demonstrate how to learn Latin
• To master common math tables, conversions, squares, and cubes
• To encourage women to form friendships and provide accountability for educational excellence

"I have been homeschooling for 11 years and have taken my boys to fine arts academies and educational co-ops. Classical Conversations is THE BEST I’ve ever seen for helping moms to help their children learn great history, science, English grammar, math and geography! Our children will also do an art project and a science experiment EVERY week! So they get the OOOH factor with other boys and girls (and you don't have to prepare or clean it up)! The cost for what you get is so small: $13 per week per child with a one-time $50 registration fee and a $50 supply fee (per year). The program runs for 24 weeks. The instructional time is 9:30 to 12:30 with lunch and play time for an hour after." --- Cindy Race

The following video was not produced by Classical Conversations Corporate, but by the local CC group in Memphis, TN. I think it gives a pretty good idea of what the classes are like and what you can expect.

Tech Spot: Social Networking

If you've been on http://www.myfavoritestation.net/, you may have wondered what it is. Well here is what wikipedia (http://www.wikipedia.org/ ) explains it.

A social network service focuses on building online communities of people who share interests and activities, or who are interested in exploring the interests and activities of others. Most social network services are web based and provide a variety of ways for users to interact, such as e-mail and instant messaging services.

I know you've seen some bad news stories concerning sites like Myspce, and Facebook. But there are Christian social networking sites, that you can get involved with. I look at theses social networking sites, (especially the christian ones) as a way of encouraging believers, and it is also a mission field, because you don't know who will come across your page. My wife Cathy Klump is the social networking coordinator for WRAF. The station maintains pages on the following social networking sites:

MySpace
http://www.myspace.com/toccoafallsradio
ShoutLife
http://www.shoutlife.com/toccoafallsradio
HisHolySpace
http://www.hisholyspace.com/toccoafallsradio
MyCCM
http://www.myccm.org/toccoafallsradio

So if you have time and want to at least explore in this area, please feel free to browse these sites, and also for more Christian sites that might be of interests, please read the article, “The list” of Christian social networks September 27, 2006 found on the site, www.churchtechreview.com/church-other-technology/the-list-of-christian-social-networks

If you have any questions about this or any of the articles I have written, or comments, or general technical questions, please e-mail me at wraf.techspot@gmail.com

Why People Listen To Christian Radio

The most popular reason for tuning in to Christian radio is to listen to Christian music (56 percent), 40 percent of Christians say they tune in to listen to sermons and teaching, according to a survey by Wilson Research Strategies. "There is a much higher demand for teaching programs than what the conventional wisdom might expect," commented Rick Dunham, president and CEO of Dunham+Company, which commissioned the survey. Furthermore, those who are primarily driven to listen to Christian music are predominantly women aged 18-44 and are more likely to attend church less frequently, while those who tune in to Christian radio to listen to teaching/sermons tend to be older men and women and attend church more frequently.

"There is a distinct difference between those who tune into Christian radio to listen to music compared to those who want teaching,” Dunham noted in a news release. “I think it is safe to say that those who desire teaching content are in fact the more serious Christians who are definitely connected with their local church.” Across the nation, an estimated 46 percent of Christian adults – representing more than 69 million people – tune in to Christian radio compared to the 91 percent of Christian adults who tune in to general radio. According to the latest survey, nearly two-thirds (65 percent) of those who listen to Christian radio do so at least several times per week, with nearly one-third (29 percent) saying they tune in every day. That represents approximately 20 million people who listen to Christian radio each day.

Regarding the findings on those who tune into Christian radio for teaching/sermons, Dunham said it is “good news for Christian programmers.” “This is … an important challenge to Christian radio station owners to understand the importance of the teaching program to Christian adults across America,” he added.

Other notable findings from the survey include the demographics of those who tune into Christian programming. Listeners were found to be predominantly women 45-54 years of age, frequent churchgoers, Pentecostal/Charismatic, residents of the South, politically conservative, and self-described activists.

Are you ready for the Olympics?

With one day to go before the Olympic Games start in Beijing, China; there are some technical breakthroughs, that you need to know about, that will enhance the broadcast of the games. For the first time in history the Olympics will be streamed online.

Microsoft corp. is teaming up with NBC to bring 3,600 hours of coverage to your home computer. http://www.nbcolympics.com/ is being powered by Microsoft’s Silverlight technology. If you’re wondering what Silverlight is, Silverlight allows you to play Windows Media Video (.wmv) files on either Mac or PC with 720 dpi Hi-def (high definition) quality. I will be watching as much Olympic content from the internet as I can, and will bring you a review on how Silverlight performs during the games.
Now I have been teasing for a while now an “ASK FLASH” section. Well in my next post I will be adding this section to my post. I will take one question each post and try and answer some of your technical questions. So, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to email me at wraf.techspot@gmail.com or write me here at the station

Prayer For Liberty

Lord Jesus, You who are the way, the truth, and the life; hear us as we pray for the truth that will make all free. Teach us that liberty is not only to be loved but also to be lived. Help us see that our liberty is not the right to do as we please, but the opportunity to do what is right.
