Hello Rob Wegman here and it’s time for the WRAF Sports Update.
With the NFL Draft still a few days away, the first big trade involving first round draft picks and star players has already been made. The Kansas City Chiefs have completed a deal with the Minnesota Vikings that will send disgruntled defensive end Jared Allen to Minnesota in exchange for a first round pick and two third-rounders. The first round pick is #17 overall and the other picks are #s 73 and 82. Allen led the NFL in sacks last season with 15.5 but he was upset by Kansas City’s decision to make him their franchise player. He now has a new contract with Minnesota and will be teaming up with defensive tackles Pat Williams and Kevin Williams to give the Vikings arguably the best front four in the league.
And despite the abundance of other rumors involving high-profile players, we might have to wait until draft day to see any more moves. The Bengals continue to refuse to engage in talks regarding wide receiver Chad Johnson and the Cardinals have taken a similar stance in regard to Anquan Boldin, despite the fact that both teams have reportedly received offers from the Washington Redskins, among other suitors. And the Bears seem content to wait out Brian Urlacher and his contract demands rather than attempting to trade him. Maybe everybody’s just waiting until Saturday or maybe nothing will happen; we’ll just have to wait and see.
That’s your afternoon sports update sponsored by Toccoa Falls College. Three more games tonight, including Game 2 of the Hawks-Celtics series, mean that the NBA playoffs continue to roll along toward Round 2. Make sure and catch the Hawks while you can because they probably won’t be around much longer.
