Hello, Rob Wegman here and it’s time for the WRAF Sports Update.
A huge slate of college basketball action tonight sets the stage for the weekend with two top-25 showdowns and numerous games with serious bubble implications. In the Big East, Notre Dame and Louisville do battle to try and stay in contention for the regular season title, while Wisconsin looks to do the same in the Big 10 with a tough game against Michigan State. The bubble games include Maryland-Wake Forest and USC-Arizona, along with a big-time opportunity for Arizona State to boost its resume as they host UCLA. It almost doesn’t seem right to have this many good games in the middle of the week…almost.
And it’s almost time for the NFL’s free agent period to begin, with teams getting the gree light to pursue players as of 12:01 tomorrow morning. With more and more teams choosing to re-sign their own players instead of taking chances on unfamiliar commodities, this appears to be a relatively weak free agent market. However, there is certainly some star appeal with players such as Randy Moss, Asante Samuel, Bernard Berrian, and Lance Briggs available for the right price. The lack of depth in this class of free agents could make for an immediate feeding frenzy among teams trying to snatch up the top tier talent, so these first couple of days could prove to be the most exciting of the off-season. Stay tuned.
That’s your afternoon sports update sponsored by Toccoa Falls College. A couple of the great college basketball games mentioned earlier are on tv tonight, in addition to some marquee NBA games as well. I’ve got a major paper due tomorrow so I’ll have to settle for reading the box scores later, but you should not resign yourselves to the same fate. Happy watching everyone.
